The Gallery

The Lakritz Gallery presents contemporary art that engages with the complexities of our time. Through a carefully curated program of exhibitions, the gallery showcases established and emerging artists whose work challenges perception, sparks curiosity, and encourages meaningful dialogue.

Our focus is on art that goes beyond decoration. We seek work that asks questions, explores new perspectives, and responds to the social, cultural, environmental, and psychological realities of contemporary life. The artists we exhibit work across a wide range of media, including painting, photography, sculpture, installation, ceramics, video, mixed media, and interdisciplinary practices.

Situated on South Africa's Wild Coast, the gallery offers an intimate alternative to large urban institutions. Visitors are encouraged to take their time, engage in conversation, and experience contemporary art within a setting where landscape, culture, and creativity meet.

Rather than navigating crowded halls and endless walls of art, visitors encounter exhibitions at a slower pace. The gallery encourages close looking, reflection, and exchange, creating an environment where meaningful engagement with art becomes possible.

As an independent, artist-led platform, Lakritz has the freedom to present work that is thoughtful, experimental, and relevant. We are interested in contemporary art that challenges assumptions, explores emerging ideas, and contributes to the broader conversations shaping our world.

More than a place to view art, the gallery is a place to encounter ideas, discover new perspectives, and engage in conversations that continue long after the exhibition has ended.
